Over the weekend I broke out the ole Cannon DSLR to see if I could get a few good shots of my baby boy, who is now crawling, growing, and well, doing everything else at a lighting-fast pace.
Now, The last time I attempted to attempted to take proper photographs, I'm pretty sure I was in high school, and they didn't turn out too bad then. I was even featured in a few local shows. So in an effort to better document the beautiful moments I'm privy to every day (and, lets be honest, to save a few hundred dollars), I thought I'd take a few test shots to see if this is a hobby worth further pursuit.
And I think it might be!
(But I'll let you be the judge of that).
I started with a few shots in the morning light in our bedroom and few more with the late afternoon sun in our living room at our house on Folly Island. The next day we were back at our farm in Aiken, where I brought the camera outside with us while we were enjoying the unseasonably warm weather. Frank, who was busy with weekend farm work, even makes an appearance with our dog Chaos in the background.
I have to say, I love this style of shooting versus posed pictures. This way I'm able to capture every little nuance that occurs when Reese is in his play "zone" and I'm better able to document his personality at this age. But photographing a subject that is constantly on the move is tricky, particularly when it's a baby who so intrigued by the camera that he can't help himself but to excitedly crawl right towards it.
By the way, I know it is a bit ridiculous how photogenic and camera-ready Reese is. Aside from a few grumpy patches (usually due to his near insatiable appetite), what you see here is pretty much how his personality is all day. What can I say? That's just him! My beautiful, outgoing, curious and most importantly, happy baby boy.
