Proceed with (massive) caution is more like it. Don't get me wrong, I love (love love!) this shirt, and whenever I wear it I feel so special, especially because I have it in an emerald color as well as a bright raspberry. But its so fragile and high maintenance that I can't wear these tops very often.
Now despite my admiration for this top, I have to admit that I don't think I would EVER spend $88 on something like this, but I am happily in the possession of the emerald color due to a very generous family gift. The fabric is 100% rayon voile, which feels very similar to silk and seems to be just as thin and fragile. Sensing its delicateness and concerned how I would be able to maintain the top, the salesperson at the store said that I could wash it in the washing machine and just air dry. WRONG! If you do that you'll get nothing but a wrinkled mess and considerable wear showing in the fabric. Worried that I had ruined this top forever (and after repeated thoughts in my head of "88 bucks and this is what you get!?"), I took it to my favorite dry cleaners who were able to save it (whew!).
I must say that the writing was on the wall with this one: the fabric and the structure seems so obviously delicate that I very well could have predicted the experience that I would have. Don't get me wrong, I love these tops, and they're perfect for so many occasions and come in about ever color, but as a consumer, you have to know what you're getting into. So if you really want to invest in the 3/4 Sleeve Shirting top, maybe make the trip to the Splendid outlet store and buy it at discount ($65), which I'm not ashamed to say I did for my second one.
